plow recommendation

I've been looking around for the best plow for my dad's 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. I'm not particular if its used or brand new as long as it's a reasonable price and worth that value! How do I check compatibility and don't plows really come with their own mounts? I chanced upon a used market over the weekend. Sure they were selling plows but not with mounts.

Yeah man, most plows don't come with the mounts unless you luck out or the seller's real generous. Best bet is to check for a mount made for that exact model/year. I'm pretty sure the Sportsman needs specific brackets. Do check Moose and Warn for them, maybe they got them.

Yep, try check manufacturer websites, usually they'll list exactly which mount part number fits your dad's Sportsman 500. Good luck!

It's really important to ensure that the mount is specifically designed for the exact year and model you have, as the fit can vary quite a bit between different generations. I'd recommend checking the fitment charts from Moose, Warn, or KFI. Did any of those used plows you looked at mention what machine they were originally on? It could be a good idea to ask if you haven't already.

I completely agree. Some time ago, I picked up a used plow setup for my old Grizzly, thinking it would fit perfectly. It turns out, the mount was actually from a different model year. I ended up having to hunt down the right bracket to get it to work. Lesson learned: always double-check the fitment charts and ask where it came from

Good advice! I've looked at a couple used plows but didn't think to ask what machine they came off, definitely following up now. Have you had better luck with one brand over the others long-term?
