ECM grounding gone wrong

Riding a '05 Polaris Sportsman 500 and feeling like a rookie again after grounding out the ECM block trying to fix the 4x4. Whole machine shut down like the lights got unplugged. Reconnected the wire but still nothing. Did I toast the brain or just miss a fuse?

Yeah, it's possible that you just blew a fuse. if i were you, I'd start by checking all the fuses, especially the main ones and any specifically labeled for the ECM or ignition system.

If the fuses are all good, then Houston, we got a problem, but let's hope for the simplest fix first! Did you notice any smoke or burning smell when it grounded out?

Update. You were right to tell me to check the simple stuff first @waterdeep8 but all the fuses were good, which put a knot in my stomach. After tracing wires, it turned out I really did toast the brain box.
Finding a new ECM for an '05 was a bit of an adventure in itself but the replacement showed up last week. I plugged it in and she fired right back to life, 4x4 and all. Appreciate all the help!
